Spiral Stabilization (SPS) Therapy

An effective, preventative and proven therapy method developed by a doctor of mysoskeletal medicine from the Czech Republic to treat back pain patients. I am 1 of a handful of qualified and certified providers for SPS in the United States.

5 minutes can make all the difference

Commit to 5 minutes a day. You can reduce the tension and stress from muscle tightness, feel less of the dull aches and pains, free up range of motion, and feel your body adjust to a new and improved posture.

What is SPS THERAPY?

Traditional training or physical therapy tend to isolate movements to one part (i.e. having a rotator cuff injury and only doing isolated shoulder exercises), but SPS is a holistic approach. By using specially resisted elastic cords to help guide your movements, it is a low intensity therapy that can treat numerous spinal conditions, improve posture, reduce tension and pain, stabilize and mobilize the body by working the spiral muscle chains.

SPS Therapy is suitable for all ages. It’s not just for individuals with an existing pain or injury. Youth, adults, elderly, and athletes at PNR Performance have all benefited from SPS.

The exercises and SPS programming for each person is individualized case by case based on initial screen and can be adjusted to fit your needs with sitting, kneeling and standing options. All individuals can benefit from SPS and easily make it a part of your day to day routine.

    • Reduces chronic and acute pains

    • It treats the body through the muscle chains

    • Treatment for posture, neck, and back pain

    • Treatment for lordosis, kyphosis, and scoliosis

    • Treatment for degenerative disc, bulging discs and herniations

    • Helps with flat feet, bunions, outward feet, lower and upper crossed syndrome, forward head posture, and more

  • There are two main chains of the body: vertical and spiral.

The vertical chain is the chain responsible for holding the body upright at rest i.e. sitting, resting, and standing. It compresses the spine and causes all the commonly known spinal health problems such as lower back pain, sciatica, disc bulge and herniations etc. Overtime, this chain becomes more and more dominating, and if not addressed, this chain causes muscle tightness, stiffness, and immobility.

The spiral chain is the chain responsible for stabilizing the body during movements i.e. walking, running, and playing sport. This chain needs to be stabilized and strengthened in order to relax the vertical chain. As the spiral chain becomes stabilized, the spine will decompress overtime and begin to heal.

By working the dynamic spiral muscle chains of the body, SPS helps relax the vertical and strengthen these spiral chains.

  • The founder and creator of the SPS method is a doctor from the Czech Republic, Dr. Richard Smisek. With 30+ years in the studies of myoskeletal medicine, Dr. Richard Smisek has worked with all kinds of patients, with his method being widely used all across Europe and Asia. Learn more here.

  • Why for golf?

As a therapy, SPS helps to treat, mobilize and stabilize the body’s spiral chain, allowing for efficient and free movement. SPS can be used as a daily practice to increase flexion and extension of the thoracic and teach golfers how to feel for the segmental differences of spinal movement. When the body has optimal movement, all the rotary and external positions in the golf swing can be achieved with greater ease. Not only will it help with simple range of motion, it can also be used as a therapy to achieve body symmetry.

The “golfers body” is just a big muscular imbalance that could affect the body’s health in the near future. Daily use of SPS helps to prevent a progressive “golfers body” and address the muscular imbalance. The best use of SPS by far has been to reduce and eliminate lower back stiffness, aches, dull pain, and tightness in the upper neck, and most discomfort in the spine.

“it’s quite humbling what difference your body feels with just this one cord”

“SPS has been a great addition to my fitness routine. In addition to working muscles that don’t always get highlighted, it’s helped me move with more fluidity.”

FAQ

  • it may take a little longer in the beginning to fully grasp the concept, but after a couple of sessions, a routine can take between 5-15 minutes

  • Not necessarily. This is a therapy, that is almost meditative, to help align and recovery your body. As the exercises advance, an endurance component can be added

  • SPS will help any of those with back pain, but it can also be a treatment for those with flat feet, outward feet, lower and upper crossed syndrome, forward head posture etc. If you find yourself sitting a lot, this is for you.

  • To do your routines at home, you can purchase a cord through me directly. Inquire to learn more.
